Koh Samet

Everyone dreams of living on a sandy beach lined with palm trees
sipping cold beers and eating great food. There are many islands in Thailand where you can do this.. Samui,
Koh Chang, Koh pha-ngan, Koh phi-phi, and Phuket to name a few. All are great places - I've been to
all of them, but Koh Samet has everything I need and want out of an island to live on for part of
the year.
Its a 3-4 hour bus ride
from Bangkok, so if island fever strikes you can escape to the city of angels at a drop of a hat. Pattaya is not
too far away either, which is always an experience .

Samet video in the photo gallery*
The beaches on Koh Samet are without doubt world class, and most of
the time the ocean is a crystal clear 30 degree turquoise blue. Samet is also the driest island in
Thailand so it really doesn't matter when you visit there is a good chance the weather will be
great.
Accommodation is cheap and
plentiful with bungalows scattered all along the coast. The bungalows at the top of the island like Sai Kaew
tend to be a little more expensive and attracts the day trippers and short visit tourists, so for me it hasn't
got that tropical island feel to it.
These beaches can be very
noisy at night time and because of this I stay on a smaller beach further south called Tubtim,
although its been developed quite a bit over the last year or so, it still remains a great place to chill
out.
See my video
below...!!
I've spent so much time on Samet, its my second home now !! There
are always lots of friends to be made, either with locals, the tourists, or the westerners who
live on Samet in the winter months of their own countries..pretty wise if you ask
me.
The Thai's there are laid back and very friendly, weekends are usually
fun as many Thai's from Bangkok come down for the weekend to party (try Silversands bar on a Friday or
Saturday and you will see what I mean) if you are a westerner you can dive right in there with them..no
problem. It does help to speak a tiny bit of Thai though, it will impress, especially with the beautiful Thai
girls.......oh yes!!!!!, beautiful Thai girls..... they are everywhere!! It is impossible not
to enjoy the company of a never ending supply of drop dead gorgeous Thai ladies.
Talk about dying and going to heaven....
