See how to get from Bangkok to Koh Samet in 3 -4 hours... in the video below

Lots of Thais come to Samet for the weekend, the girls in the video below had their picture taken ALL weekend- no kidding! I think they were showing off the new IPhones that they were using to take the snaps.

One of the few places I have never been to in Thailand is Ko Chang- until now. I flew down to Trat with my delightful girlfriend then onto Ko Chang to do a bit of snorkeling (not that I needed an excuse) and have to say I was suprised at how developed the island was, with a pretty good infrastructure and real roads which is nice when you are used to the dirt tracks of Samet.

I convinced my lady that we should stay somewhere nice as she is well overdue a holiday and a crappy room was not an option. After a bit of research we booked the seaview resort and spa  which turned out to be a great choice. The room we stayed in was a deluxe 2 with point blank views of the ocean and small islands. A nice point (I thought anyway) was that you can have a soak in the huge bathtub and look out into the horizon and watch the amazing sunset.

The food and service there was the best I have experienced in Thailand for a long time. Its a bit on the expensive side, but in my opinion worth every Baht, and for that romantic getaway its guaranteed to impress.

To spend prolonged periods in Thailand a good way to do it is to get a 60 day tourist visa issued outside of Thailand, when this expires travel to somewhere like Cambodia or Malaysia and get another one.

This may sound expensive but consider that if you book in advance with AirAsia flights can be as low as $20-30. Got to be better than the 30, or now 15 day visa runs.

Another way around this is to register a business in Thailand, and then apply for a non-immigrant B visa. This is fairly simple to set up, and would recommend using a reputable company to do the work for you. Sunbeltasia.com is the best to use,and at an all up cost of 50,000 baht for peace of mind its probably a good investment. They can of course advise on alternative arrangements.

Was lucky enough to be in Sydney to see and photograph this amazing storm over the harbour

 thais on a bus

Yes its true Thais can sleep anywhere even on this Bangkok bus !!

Anyone thinking of visiting the small pool bar in the alleyway between sukhumvit soi 5 and 7 in Bangkok (snookz bar) by all means have a game and a beer but buy one of the lovely ladies a drink and it will set you back 180Baht !!.. more expensive than most gogo's. There is conveniently no lady drink price on the menu either, so my advice-stay clear, and go round the corner to the upstairs area of the Beirgarten on soi 7, or New Wave bar just a bit further down the soi.

So many lovely girls to meet in Silversands on Koh Samet

Try out the Majestic Grande  (just behind the Marriot) I highly reccommend the place. It is a bit on the costly side- 3,000 Baht upwards, but good value compared to similar hotels with the same facilities.

The (in)famous Beer garden on soi 7, you recognise anyone ??
